The Atlanta Hawks barely escaped the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night, 131-128. Despite the win, the Hawks are still no. 10 in the Eastern Conference with an underwhelming 33-34 record, and could still lose a spot in the play-in tournament.

After a stirring campaign last year, the Hawks have underachieved this season. The front office brought back almost an intact roster in the hopes of maintaining the chemistry and building on the momentum. But the tactic has backfired, as other teams recharged with key additions.

Still, the Hawks could make a solid run to close out the regular season, especially with star Trae Young playing great over the past few weeks. But for the spitfire guard, they should make a shift in mindset, per the report of ESPN.

“At this point in the season, we don't have to play our best—we have to play our hardest. Good effort and energy and live with the results. I think when you focus on playing your best and playing perfect, that's when you make mistakes and mess up. If we come out with the mentality of playing hard and playing with energy, everything else will take care of itself.”

Young finished with 47 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field, including 7-of-10 from long range in their win over the Pacers. He scored 33 of those in the opening half, setting the tone early for the Hawks.

The Hawks still have 15 games left in the regular season, including against the Portland Trail Blazers this Monday, and they need to rack up Ws quickly.
