In last season's playoffs, Ben Simmons all but sunk his trade value and his future with the Philadelphia 76ers in a series loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Simmons' absence has adversely affected the Sixers this season but they are still well above the Hawks in the standings.

At 17-20, Atlanta is struggling and needs to make a change in order to get back in the playoff hunt. According to longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Hawks are emerging as a suitor for Simmons.

Simmons heading to the Hawks would be a pretty funny turn of events considering how last season ended for him and the Sixers. Yet, it makes total sense for Atlanta, who is struggling badly on defense. Their defensive rating is ranked 27th in the NBA, which has sunk their offense, which is ranked second in offensive rating.

Another reason that Simmons would make sense for the Hawks would be his playmaking skills. Offering high-level playmaking with Trae Young would bolster an already impressive offense.

So, what would Philadelphia want from Atlanta? Young would certainly be off the table, and a big man like Clint Capela or John Collins doesn't make sense. Danilo Gallinari or Bogdan Bogdanovic would likely have to be included for salary purposes along with young wings like Kevin Huerter, De'Andre Hunter or Cam Reddish. The Sixers may also demand draft compensation. It would be a high price but Simmons could be worth it.

The Hawks, despite being driven by young stars, are not seen as a rebuilding team anymore. They are expected to be a playoff team. Adding Simmons would be the best of both worlds — improving the team and staying youthful.
