The Hawks will look to get off to a better start this season. Unfortunately, they have struggled in recent seasons to start the year and will look to change that. Coach Quinn Snyder will look to implement his system after a full offseason. Significantly, he will have to find a way to get the best out of superstar Trae Young, who averaged 26.2 points, 10.2 assists, and three rebounds per game in 2022-2023. Clint Capella is another focal player who averaged 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 2022-2023. Also, the Hawks welcome back Dejounte Murray, who averaged 20.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Bogdan Bogdanovic also returns after averaging 14 points per game.
The Hornets will look to stay healthy as they play this opener. First, there is superstar LaMello Ball, who averaged 23.3 points and 8.4 assists per game through just 36 games. Kelly Oubre Jr. averaged 21.1 points per game for the Hornets. Meanwhile, Mark Williams, the 15th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, averaged 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and looks to take the next step in his development. P.J. Washington averaged 20.3 points for the Hornets. Likewise, Gordon Hayword hopes to stay healthy.
The Hornets won 3 of 4 games last season. However, they are just 4-4 over the past eight home games against the Hawks. The Hawks and Hornets combined for over 236 points twice last season.

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread
The Hawks have always struggled to start the season. Thus, this one will be important to determine where they are in the main frame of the association. It all starts with their stars and continues from there.
Young must take that next step in his development. Yes, he is already one of the best players in the NBA. But he has shown maturity issues over the years and must regain his composure. Significantly, he led the way with 31 points in the lone win against the Hornets. The Hawks also need Hunter to be the second top guy in this lineup. Moreover, they need him to convert on his shooting attempts.
Bogdanovic was the other major factor in the win over the Hornets last year and will look to provide a spark. Significantly, he had 28 points and nine rebounds in the win last season. The Hawks will need to thrive without John Collins, who they traded away to the Utah Jazz. Now, they must overcome the loss of a key player and look for depth while trying to start the season on the road against a divisional rival.
The Hawks will cover the spread if Young can hit his shots and show composure. Then, the Hawks must also get support from other players while also stopping Ball.
Why The Hornets Could Cover The Spread
The Hornets are all about health, and they need to stay off the injured reserve list. Ultimately, if they can do that, they may have a chance to improve this coming season. It all starts with this game against the Hawks.
Ball is the main cog that makes the engine go. Significantly, he was the biggest factor in the 144-138 win over the Hawks last season when he scored 30 points and distributed 15 assists. Terry Rozier was another major factor, as he scored 29 points with five assists in that game. Also, Hayward added 26 points and eight assists in that same game. 4
The Hornets also will hope to get more out of PJ Washington. Ultimately, he is a player who can do everything and will be the one to watch in this opener. It will also be the first game for rookie Brandon Miller, who the Hornets took with the second pick. Thus, it will be interesting to see what he can do in the opener.
The Hornets will cover the spread if Ball leads the way and helps the Hornets build a substantial lead. Additionally, the rest of the players must hit their shots and stop Young.
Final Hawks-Hornets Prediction & Pick
The Hornets won both games at home last season, winning by scores of 144-138 and 125-106. Now, they are healthy, and the Hawks lost a significant player from their lineup. Expect the Hornets to take advantage of an Atlanta team that will be trying to put things together early.
Final Hawks-Hornets Prediction & Pick: Charlotte Hornets: +3.5 (-110)
