New Miami Heat small forward Andre Iguodala says it wasn’t leverage that got him to the South Beach franchise, but rather patience.

Iguodala was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Memphis Grizzlies this past summer. The former Finals MVP didn't play a single game for Memphis and reached an agreement with the team to train away from them while they looked for a trade.

It took all the way until the day before the trade deadline, but the Grizzlies managed to send Iguodala to the Heat. While the pressure was increasing for Memphis to find a trade for Iggy, Pat Riley and the Heat stepped up in typical Riley fashion and made the blockbuster move.

Last season with the Warriors, Iguodala averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 58.2 percent from the free-throw line. The now 36-year-old swingman put up 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the 2019 playoffs.

The Heat are thrilled to have Iggy in South Beach. They now have three elite defenders in Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Andre Iguodala.

Miami is thriving this season with Butler leading the way. They are fourth in the East with a 34-18 record, and their trade deadline moves only show they are ready to go all-out to win the chip this 2019-20 campaign.
