The Miami Heat used their 20th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft to select Memphis power forward Precious Achiuwa. It is considered by most as a great pickup for Miami, and Heat legend Dwyane Wade could not agree more.

In a recent appearance on NBA TV, Wade expressed his delight in Miami's decision to swoop in on Achiuwa (h/t Miami Heat on Twitter):

“I haven't did a lot of scouting, but just talking to my best friend, my brother, Udonis Haslem — the captain over there — we talked about what would the Heat need. And the one thing we talked about was Bam [Adebayo]. He's taking a beating down there, so to have somebody that can come in and kinda play the same way — he's a young Bam. Coming in Bam couldn't shoot early on. He's real athletic and a great roller to the rim. Great shot-blocker.”

As Wade expressed above, Miami's shortcomings in the frontcourt was exposed throughout the playoffs. This was even more evident in the Finals, as the Heat struggled to match the size of the Los Angeles Lakers. Achiuwa seems to fit the bill in terms of Miami's requirements in the forward spot right now and their title hopes for next season.

Wade went on to state just how much potential he sees in the young Nigerian, talking up as a future Bam Adebayo:

“And then with the Heat's ability to make sure they put the work in with these players and teach them the NBA game slowly,” Wade added. “This kid could develop into what Bam has now developed into. I love this pick for us because it's something that we need. It's something that Bam needs to continue to stay at that All-Star level.”
