In one of the more surprising moves of the day the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Dwyane Wade back to the Miami Heat, the team he spent the first 13 years of his career with.

The Cavaliers got back a second round pick in 2024, but it didn't seem to be about the pick for the Cavs, they just wanted to give him a chance at a bigger opportunity, something he probably wouldn't have had with the pick up of Jordan Clarkson.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN it was a good fit for both teams:

In an exclusive interview with Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, Wade opened up about the trade. Wade knew he would always go back to Miami and retire with the Heat, but he figured he would have to sign a free agent deal with them, not go back through trade.

“So if you get a text like that and the trade deadline is coming up and you know the team that you’re on is going to be very active, you know something is going down with you,” Wade said. “And my mind went right to, ‘No, it’s not Miami. There’s no way.’ My mind went right to that because I felt like that’s the only other place I can be.”

Wade is expected to make his debut with the Heat on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks where he is expected to come off the bench, which he doesn't seem to have a problem with. When asked about how he feels coming off the bench Wade said:

“Don’t matter, I can’t wait to embrace whatever role I have.”

Wade is clearly excited about the chance to go back with the Heat, now the only question is how much success he can bring them.
