The Miami Heat enjoyed a successful 2021-2022 NBA season. They finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference and set up a potential dynasty for years to come. Players such as Tyler Herro, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent and others took steps in the right direction. It was also the first season Miami featured their new “Big 3”, with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Kyle Lowry.

However, Lowry shared a brutally honest reflection on his first season with the Heat after getting eliminated by the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

“It was a wasted year,” Lowry declared. “If you’re not playing for a championship, it’s a waste of a year.”

The sentiment behind Kyle Lowry's statement is understandable. He wanted to win a championship with Miami this season. But calling it a wasted year seems a big exaggerated. Miami is set up nicely for the future and are likely just a few pieces away from becoming an elite franchise.

Lowry enjoyed a successful season for the Heat as well. He posted 13.4 points per game to go along with 7.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per contest. He also shot 38 percent from beyond the arc and 44 percent from the field.

The veteran point guard endured some postseason struggles, but he was also dealing with a lingering injury. But Heat fans should be encouraged that he has no intention of settling for anything less than a championship caliber season.

The Heat will aim to rebound next year with Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry leading the charge.
