Miami Heat stud Tyler Herro has been balling out to start the season. So much so, that even the 21-year-old himself is jumping on the Tyler Herro hype train.

After recently stating his belief that he's at the same level as Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Ja Morant, the Heat youngster has now taken his claims a notch higher. According to Herro, he is confident that he's going to be in the running for this season's Sixth Man AND Most Improved Player awards:

“I just want to win a championship,” Herro said, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “Obviously, Sixth Man of the Year, for sure. Most Improved. I feel like I can compete for those two, for sure.”

These are some pretty lofty goals for Herro, and one thing we can say for sure is that this kid is not one bit short on confidence.

To be fair, Herro has been putting up some pretty insane numbers to start the season. Over his first seven games, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard has amassed no less than 157 total points off the bench. That's the most points scored by a player from the second unit this season — and it's not even close. In fact, Herro's scoring outburst has broken a long-standing NBA record. The 157 points Herro has scored in seven games is one point more than that of Jason Terry's record for the Dallas Mavericks way back in 2007.

For his part, however, Herro has chosen to play down his recent hot streak:

“I mean, that’s cool, I guess,” Herro said with a grin when told about the record. “I mean, I’m just continuing to do my part and do my job and it’s still really early.”

Nevertheless, Herro admitted that he's more than comfortable with making the Sixth Man role for the Heat his own. As a matter of fact, the former 13th overall pick has embraced it:

“I think I have a definitive role as the sixth man,” Herro said. “Last year was kind of like some nights sixth, some nights ninth man. Now that I know I’m the sixth man, just the comfort in that role makes me want to keep going.”

Through his first seven games for the Heat this season, Herro is averaging 22.4 points (on 47.2 percent shooting), 6.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 31.6 minutes off the bench. He's also connecting on 2.9 triples per game on a highly impressive 40.8-percent clip. Those are some pretty spectacular numbers and at this point in the season, are indeed worthy of the Sixth Man title.

When asked why he feels he's had such a significant improvement this year compared to his lackluster sophomore campaign, Herro revealed that he now has a better feel for the game in general:

“I feel like my handle is a lot tighter,” Herro said. “The game has really slowed down, so I’m able to read defenses better and just being able to get to my spots offensively, and defensively just being able to make plays and be in the right spots.”

The Miami Heat are currently 6-1 and are sitting at the very top of the Eastern Conference. There's no denying that Tyler Herro has been a key component for Miami early on, and his strong play will definitely have a significant impact on the team's success moving forward.
