The New Orleans Pelicans tried hard to sign Kyle Lowry in free agency. Unfortunately, the veteran point guard–who eventually signed with the Miami Heat–never had any interest in joining the team.

According to Barry Jackson of Miami Herald, the Pelicans were ready to go all-out for for Lowry and offer him a multi-year contract in excess of $90 million. It's just that the one-time champion preferred playing for the Heat alongside his good friend Jimmy Butler.

New Orleans was willing to go to $90 million over three years or more, according to a source, but Lowry never leaned toward going there, according to the source. Lowry took three years and $85 million from Miami.

Now this is certainly a big slap for the Pelicans, who were really hoping to get Kyle Lowry to give Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram a star point guard. The team even cleared cap space by sending away Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe before free agency just to make a room for a huge offer.

To make matters worse, the Pelicans were not even Lowry's second choice. As reported earlier, before signing with the Heat, the 35-year-old also considered the Dallas Mavericks since he was intrigued by them and they were willing to meet his asking price.

The Pelicans did add some solid talent in Devonte' Graham, Willy Hernangomez and Garrett Temple. However, they are still without the star point guard they've been looking for.
