It's a new era for the Charlotte Hornets, as the franchise is handing the keys to the offense to Terry Rozier, who is replacing All-Star point guard Kemba Walker.

Rozier and Walker were traded for each other this summer. Rozier signed a three-year, $56.7 million contract with the Hornets as part of a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics. Walker signed a four-year, $140.79 million deal with the Celtics.

Rozier is obviously not as talented as Walker, but an executive on the Hornets believes Rozier will be terrific for the team as they embark on this next chapter.

“We love his competitiveness,” the Hornets exec told Keith Smith of Real GM. “We all saw what he did when he was Boston’s starter. That’s the guy we are getting. We feel confident Terry will be terrific for us as we launch a new era.”

Terry Rozier had a down season in 2018-19 because he was back to being a bench player since Kyrie Irving was back in the lineup. Rozier played well for the Celtics during the 2018 playoffs when he was the starter. In 19 games during the Celtics’ postseason run, Rozier averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from three. Boston lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.

With the Hornets, Rozier will be the full-time starter and won't have to look over his shoulder. The Hornets are excited to see what the rugged defender can do as a permanent starter in the NBA.
