With all the hype surrounding LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier proved he's ready to compete for a starting spot with a brilliant performance in a losing effort against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

On Wednesday night, Rozier exploded for a career-high 42 points, highlighted by his 10 triples throughout the game. He also had three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block on 65.2 percent shooting from the field.

For what it's worth, according to NBA Stats, Terry Rozier's 10 triples is the most in NBA history in a team's first game of the season. Meanwhile, his scoring mark is the most in a season-opener in Hornets history.

Unfortunately for the team, it wasn't enough to overcame the Cavs, who came out with a 121-114 win. Aside from Rozier, only Gordon Hayward reached the 20-point mark with 28 points. As for the rookie LaMelo, he went on the wrong side of history with a scoreless outing, coupled with just three assists and 1 rebound in 16 minutes of play.

Collin Sexton and Darius Garland combined for 49 points for the Cavs, while their own rookie in Isaac Okoro had a a solid performance with 11 points, three boards and five assists in his first official NBA game and first start of his professional career.

The Hornets are scheduled to play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, which should be another opportunity for Rozier to prove his capabilities as a starter and for LaMelo to quickly erase the overhyped talks that have been slowly emerging.
