The Golden State Warriors are just one win away from passing the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls for the best record in NBA history. Even if the Warriors fall short and don't collect victory #73, tying the historic mark is a remarkable achievement on its own. There's a reason only two teams have ever passed the 70-win plateau.

In a recent piece by the Bay Area Sports Guy (Steve Berman), a scenario where the Warriors do win on Wednesday to break the record is analyzed. An acceptance speech for the achievement is then given by Draymond Green, who thanks all of the usual parties for their support and hard work. At the end, he includes an unexpected source.

While the Warriors' immense talent and camaraderie is the main source of their success, it's suggested here that Golden State was pushed to greatness through the long drudging of the 82-game season by the many doubters out there who didn't believe in them.

The list of people doubting/hating on the Warriors after they won the title last season is pretty incredible; as Berman notes, few teams that go 67-15 and win a championship as Golden State did last year are looked upon as a “fluke.”

It started with the sports books in Bovada, who made the Warriors' odds of repeating lower than both the San Antonio Spurs‘ and Cleveland Cavaliers‘ title chances.

Doc Rivers said the Warriors were “lucky” because they didn't have to play the Spurs or the Clippers in the playoffs last year.

Charles Barkley never believed they could win at any point and said Curry is “just a great shooter.”

Oscar Robertson claimed that opposing coaches are just too dumb to know how to guard them.

Just 17.9 percent of  NBA general managers picked the Warriors to repeat as champions before the season.

Various members of that 1995-96 Bulls team claimed that they'd easily defeat this Golden State squad.

The list of doubters goes on and on while the Warriors continue to win and win. If anything, the Warriors are thankful for the doubt, helping to fuel their fire to prove them all wrong as they go for basketball immortality.
