The Miami Hurricanes are set to have a new head coach after reports emerged about their interest in Mario Cristobal of the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks tried convincing Cristobal to extend his deal. However, the Hurricanes were optimistic that they could secure his services, and it seems they have now gotten their man.

As per Sports Illustrated:

“The Miami Herald reported on Friday that Miami remains optimistic about its chances of hiring Cristobal over the coming days, with a potential announcement for its next coach coming before Tuesday. Cristobal, who was born and attended elementary school in Miami, played for the Hurricanes and won two national championships with the program.”

Since then, there have been developments in the Hurricanes' pursuit of Cristobal. As per Mike Ryan (Ruiz) on Twitter:

“According to sources: Mario Cristobal will be the next Head Coach at Miami”

Cristobal has been an important asset to the Ducks. In his four seasons as coach of the Oregon team, he had a 35-13 record. His reign included two consecutive Pac-12 championships.

As for Miami, they are in a mess following Blake James' resignation as athletic director. Under head coach Manny Diaz in 2021, the Hurricanes started the year number 14 in the team rankings. However, they ended the season with a 7-5 record following a number of injuries. Blake James isn't the only person who has left Miami. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has also just left to become head coach of the SMU Mustangs.

If Mario Cristobal is really heading to Miami, the university will be hoping he can end their long wait for a championship.
