The Miami Hurricanes' big-money hiring of former Oregon boss Mario Cristobal signals the program is serious about reclaiming its status as a college football powerhouse. Cristobal's comments during his introductory press conference suggest that's exactly what he's anticipating during his tenure as head coach.

Via David Wilson of the Miami Herald, Cristobal admitted that the promise from the university of an increased investment of resources into the football program was a “critical piece” of his decision to return to his alma mater.

His comments made one thing very clear: he would not have come to Miami had the program not shared his common vision of being committed to improving and restoring the football team to its former glory. Clearly, they were, and Cristobal inked a 10-year, $80 million deal to make the move back out to Coral Gables.

Cristobal is used to luxury after his stint at Oregon, which boasts some of the finest facilities across the nation. Phil Knight injected a cool $1 billion into the athletics department and the results are clear as day. That won't be the case in Miami, but they will still invest plenty into building a top-tier program under Cristobal. A coach wouldn't make that type of jump unless they were given real assurances that big changes were on the way.

Based on the comments from the former Oregon boss, the Hurricanes could very soon become a premier college football destination once again, and he plans on being the man pulling the strings. It's a new dawn for The U, and Cristobal is confident he can build something special there.
