The best advice I could ever give someone is that working with and/or for family is an awful idea. Patrick McCaffery apparently does not care what I believe is the greatest life lesson bestowed upon me, as the 4-star prospect has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes and father, Fran McCaffery.

Patrick McCaffery is a member of the 2019 recruiting class. While you might find it shocking that a kid would be committing this far removed from actually hitting campus, his decision was likely expedited by the fact his father would be his coach.

In what was a pretty nice gesture of deprecation, the fun of playing for his dad made for a good announcement on the mean streets of Twitter.

“It may come as a big surprise,” Patrick wrote on social media, “but i have decided to commit to play for my father at the University of Iowa!! Go hawks”

Patrick is a 6-foot-7 combo forward. He isn't only some simple legacy recruit, either. Patrick McCaffery is a potential impact player, ranked as high as 30th overall in his class by both Rivals and ESPN.

As a random note that fits with this: Patrick is the second of father McCaffery's sons to commit to the school.

There's also an origin story worth knowing about. Patrick was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in March of 2014, and had surgery to remove a malignant tumor before being declared cancer-free in June of that year. He, playing alongside his brother, averaged 13.8 points per game as a sophomore last year for his state champion Iowa City High team.
