Islam Makhachev is coming off of a submission victory over Israel Adesanya's training partner, Dan Hooker, at UFC 267. The win was a dominant one as the Russian was able to get the submission.
Dan Hooker stepped up to face Islam Makhachev on short notice after Rafael dos Anjos was injured in the lead-up to the event. The Russian has had a tough time finding opponents and Hooker was willing and ready to fill in after beating Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266.
Israel Adesanya made some comments before the fight in support of his teammate, Dan Hooker. He went as far as to say he would bet all of his money on the ‘psychopath' that is his team captain.
Islam Makhachev had some fun with Adesanya's quote when he tweeted out a picture of the quote and put: ‘@stylebender
hey bro, how much you lose? 😀'

Islam Makhachev had every reason to be happy with his performance as he put on a dominant showing. The Russian found the takedown early and worked quickly to find the submission.
Now he finds himself at the very top of the lightweight division and he seems to be only one fight away from a title shot. He will need to wait for the aftermath of Michael Chandler vs Justin Gaethje at UFC 268 and Charles Oliveria vs Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.
Israel Adesanya has yet to fire back but one can imagine he'll have something witty to say in response. Adesanya is set to fight Robert Whittaker in February.
