Does anyone believe that Jacoby Brissett is the best option long-term for the Indianapolis Colts? After Andrew Luck announced his retirement, the Colts had no choice but to turn to Brissett. As the season comes to an end, Indianapolis may be looking for a new quarterback earlier than they hoped.

Winning and losing is the name of the game in any sport. In the NFL, it changes week to week since there are only 16 games. Early on, Brissett and the Colts looked promising. Indianapolis won five of their first seven games, and Brissett had 14 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Since then, the Colts have lost five of their last six games. Brissett has been held under 200 yards twice since Week 11.

The Colts will now travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints on Monday Night Football. This seems like an impossible task. It is unlikely that the Colts are going to win this game, but they need to go in and compete led by Brissett. It is time that the quarterback starts playing for his job.

Is Brissett the Answer?

Brissett signed a two-year, $30 million contract extension before the season started. He will become a free agent after the 2020 campaign. This was a necessary move for the Colts given Luck's abrupt decision, but now they will be faced with one of their own. Will they keep Brissett to lead the team following 2020?

Indianapolis will use the final three games as a judgment to see what they have. If Brissett continues down the path he is on, his stay in Indy will be over. The Colts can opt to draft a quarterback in 2020 if they feel the need. There will be solid options available in the later rounds, such as Jake Fromm, Jordan Love, and possibly Jalen Hurts.

The Colts' season is over. They are currently 6-7 and have fallen behind in the AFC South. They will finish their season with two winnable games following the Saints. The Colts will face the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars over the final two weeks. The wheels have fallen off for both of those teams in recent weeks. Brissett will need to show that he can win games that the team is supposed to.

It begins on Monday night. Even if the Colts do not come out on top, and no one expects them to, they will need to show some fight. A decision has not been made on Brissett for the future, and his performance in this game will go a long way.
