The Jacksonville Jaguars made an offseason move in trading veteran quarterback Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears, signaling a clear path for rising sophomore signal-caller Gardner Minshew to firmly take the reins of the AFC South franchise's offense.
However, during the same offseason, the Jaguars also acquired veteran gunslinger Mike Glennon and selected Oregon State Beavers quarterback Jake Luton in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft in April.
After moving on from Foles, the 24-year-old Minshew had no obstacle in his way to gaining the No. 1 spot on the Jaguars depth chart again. And the additions of Glennon and Luton haven't affected his confidence one bit.
Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Minshew said,
In 14 games and 12 starts during his debut professional season for the Jaguars, Minshew totaled over 3,200 passing yards with a 60.6 completion percentage, tossing 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. Jacksonville went 6-6 in the mustachioed gunslinger's 12 starts — accounting for all six of the team's wins during the 6-10 overall regular-season record.
Minshew is hoping to improve upon all of those numbers now that he has the Jaguars' nod of approval as their top quarterback.
