The Jacksonville Jaguars parted ways with John DeFilippo after just one season as the team's offensive coordinator and the team is currently conducting interviews to find his replacement. Among the candidates, Jay Gruden will receive an interview for Jacksonville's offensive coordinator role, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

This past season, Gruden was fired as the head coach of the Washington Redskins. He spent nearly six years at the position. During his tenure in the nation's capital, Gruden produced a 35-49-1 record. Additionally, the Redskins lost their lone playoff appearance under Gruden.

Despite his faults as a head coach, Gruden is “itching” to get back into coaching again. Instead of being a head coach, Gruden realizes that it is best to be an offensive coordinator, with the Jaguars job open.

Prior to becoming the head coach of the Redskins, Gruden served as the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals for three years. In his three seasons in Cincinnati, Gruden was able to manufacture an effective offense with Andy Dalton under center.

At the same time, the Bengals made the playoffs in every season that Gruden was the offensive coordinator. The Jaguars are trying to find someone that can help them get back to the postseason.

Besides Gruden, Jacksonville has also expressed interest in Ben McAdoo at offensive coordinator, per Ian Rapoport. Of course, McAdoo coached against Gruden when he was the head coach of the New York Giants from 2016-17.

Regardless of who gets the job, there will be a pivotal decision to make on who to start at quarterback. The Jaguars could choose to hire the coach who sides with the front office in terms of Nick Foles or Gardner Minshew.
