The term “field general” didn't just derive from nothing. It didn't pop up as a major football term out of thin air. It accurately describes the quarterback position for that man is the point man, the individual who spreads the wealth and runs the machine.

In the case of the Jacksonville Jaguars, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett believes his offense can develop more aggressive tendencies if their field general, young Blake Bortles, can be trusted further, via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

“We’re in a great situation, because a very good line, and we have very good running backs, which will allow us to run the ball,” Hackett said. “Now it’s going to allow us to be a lot more aggressive, because you can trust that Blake is going to make right decision more consistently.”

Bortles, 26, has traveled through a well-documented path over the first four years of his professional career.

As the third overall selection by way of Central Florida in 2014, Bortles' play on the field has netted mixed results.

In 2015, he threw for a tidy 35 touchdowns and 4,428 yards to 18 interceptions, but that was, by far, his best statistical season. Over the last two seasons, a combined 44-to-29 TD-INT ratio has come attached to his player card.

What's important for his position is only one thing, however: wins. And winning is exactly what Bortles did a year ago with that sparkling 10-6 record while taking his Jags to the AFC championship game.

Only time will tell as to the thought of the overall aggressiveness coming from Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars offense this coming season.
