Jacksonville Jaguars backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs has spent three weeks during the offseason completing an externship at NASA. Dobbs graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a degree in aerospace engineering. After the Super Bowl but before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States, Dobbs with the help of the NFLPA completed in a program at NASA.

Dobbs said it was an amazing experience and still admits it's hard to fathom some of the things they are able to do.

“When you get down there and you see how intelligent people are and how hard they work, just what they are even talking about and are able to pull off, it’s truly amazing,” Dobbs said via Paul Myberg of Jacksonville.com. “It was so specialized.”

NASA's deputy director of engineering Scott Colloredo said he was impressed that Dobbs, acquired by the Jaguars last September, even wanted to take part in the program in the first place.

“The fact that in his spare time he had the interest and the ability to come work for NASA, we’re very impressed with him,” Colloredo said. “It was pretty unique. But let’s face it: Josh, his approach and the way he’s going about parallel activity between the NFL and becoming an aerospace technologist, that’s pretty unique.”

Dobbs was originally played in the Exploration Ground Systems, which is responsible for the operating systems used to transport and launching rockets. Even though that's where Dobbs started, he worked in all the different areas so he can learn a little from each area.
