Despite taking Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars refuse to commit to the QB as their first-stringer ahead of Week 1.

Jaguars coach Urban Meyer was asked about the starting job recently and made it very clear that Gardner Minshew is in the running to be QB1.

With Jacksonville set to play on Saturday against the Browns, Meyer also hasn't decided who will get the nod as the starter quite yet.

For what it's worth, Minshew is currently listed first on the Jaguars QB depth chart. Meyer could be trying to rattle Lawrence and give him the motivation to run away with the starting job. Minshew was involved in potential trade talks in the offseason but the Jags have decided to keep him around as he looks poised to be a key piece of the offense this season. Remember, this is the same guy who said he hasn't taken a poop in weeks because number two isn't an option.

Lawrence still has his work cut out for him to be the Jaguars' QB1 with Minshew breathing down his neck. Either way you look at it, having competition within is always a positive and should help both guys succeed.
