The third overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft, Utah Jazz big man Derrick Favors is one-third of the team's impressive starting frontcourt along with Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles.

With the evolution of the modern NBA which values court spacing and an uptempo pacing, Favors is considered a relic. He's a burly rebounding banger who prides himself on working down low on defense and offense. That's not a knock on his talent, as he is actually pretty proficient in the post while grabbing the occasional putback.

This season, things are taking a quick turn for the post specialists in the league. Add Favors to the list of traditional big men working to add a 3-point shot to their arsenal.

According to Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune,  the Jazz big man made a comment about working on his 3-point shooting. Although it sounded funny coming from Favors, he wasn't joking.

Favors said:

“I was dead-a– serious. I was dead serious when I said that.”

He added:

“I’ve been working on it within the offense… We run specific plays where I stretch out to the corner and guys pass me the ball and I’m taking the shot.”

Favors attempted by far the most 3s of his career last year when he took 63 of them in the regular season and five more in the playoffs, though he only made 16 of those 68 attempts. However, he had only made four triples his entire career before last year, so this was a big step.

Favors becoming a legitimate corner 3-point specialist would only help Utah's offense this season. After coming up short against the high-octane offense of the Houston Rockets in last year's playoffs, a pseudo-stretch Favors could catch teams off guard.
