The Utah Jazz will be without shooting guard Donovan Mitchell in the second half of their matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers. The second-year man is dealing with a rib contusion, ending his night prematurely.

The Jazz and Lakers were back where they started after the first 24 minutes of play, locked in at a 38-38 score. In his 11 minutes of play, Donovan Mitchell notched four points, three rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

Prior to Friday night's affair with the Lakers, Mitchell has been averaging 21.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. These are slightly-improved numbers from his rookie year last season, but his shooting remains abysmal with a 42 percent clip from the field and 30 percent from downtown.

This setback really hurts for Donovan Mitchell as he tries to lift the Jazz up the Western Conference standings. Entering the Lakers game, Utah holds the 13th spot with an 8-10 win-loss record, but only two games separate them from the surprising Sacramento Kings who own the eight spot.

Over his past four games, Mitchell has stepped up his scoring to 25.3 points per game, despite having a 7-point hiccup against the Indiana Pacers two games prior to Friday.

Without Donovan Mitchell, guys like Joe Ingles and Rudy Gobert are expected to pick up the slack on both ends for the Jazz.
