The Utah Jazz will be shorthanded for at least two weeks as their veteran swingman, Joe Johnson, suffered a wrist injury which will keep him sidelined. An MRI revealed that there is instability in his right wrist, and the re-evaluation after two weeks will reveal when he’ll be able to return to action, according to the team’s official release.

It is unknown when the 36-year-old exactly suffered it, but it’s definitely a cause of concern as there’s also a possibility that he could miss more time. Wrist injuries are tricky to deal with, especially for a shooter like Johnson, who relies heavily on it, and being right handed also means he uses it a lot.

Now in his 17th season in the league, the seven-time All-Star is still not showing any signs of slowing down, as he continues to play a huge role for the Jazz. Although his numbers are considerably down so far this season, he remains a source of leadership on the floor for his team. His averages of 6.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists may seem pedestrian, but it’s his experience and solid performances in the playoffs which makes him very valuable to the Jazz.

Thabo Sefolosha and Jonas Jerebko could receive more minutes in his absence, and Rodney Hood as well as Donovan Mitchell could play more at the small forward spot. This would be a great opportunity for them to help the team’s cause, and buy time for Johnson, as he recovers from his injury.
