The Utah Jazz had lost six of their last seven games before the team's huge overtime win over the Golden State Warriors Tuesday night. The slump seems to be over, but what changed?
On Monday, two days after the loss to the Warriors and one day before they took on the Grizzlies, the Jazz held a players-only meeting at their practice facility.
Shortly after the Jazz's much-needed win Tuesday night, Rudy Gobert discussed the team's meeting with The Athletic. He said that the main topic of conversation was communication, or, more recently, lack thereof.
“We got to sit together and just be honest with each other…It was the whole team. And for us, the bottom line was really the communication during the game. We’ve been playing well for three quarters; I mean, we’d be first in the league if the game ended after the third…” the Jazz star said, all quotes courtesy of The Athletic. “Obviously, the good teams step up in the fourth…But still — we’re not a sh*tty team.”
Of course, everyone knows that in the NBA, the fourth quarter can make or break a team. And, as Gobert mentioned, good teams know how to hold onto leads and come back from deficits in the final minutes of play. As of recent, this Jazz team hasn't been able to do that.
Fortunately, the Jazz clinched their playoff berth with Tuesday night's win, meaning they have a lot more time to prove themselves.
