Utah Jazz guard Grayson Allen is heading back to the G League. Allen will join the Salt Lake City Stars, the team announced, having played eight games for the squad earlier this season.

The 23-year-old Allen has started all eight games he has played with the Stars, averaging 15.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, having fired up 7.5 three-point attempts per contest.

His playing time, and shot opportunities, with the Jazz have been much more sporadic. He has logged into 31 games overall, having made his one start, averaging just 9.4 minutes per contest. His limited time has seen him toss in 3.9 points per game on 31.6 percent shooting overall.

Utah snagged Allen with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Duke, where he had arrived as a McDonald's All-American coming out of high school. As a sophomore, Allen poured in 21.6 points per game, but chose to return to the Blue Devils for both his junior and eventually, senior, campaigns. In that span, he logged both a First-team All-ACC (2016) and Third-team All-ACC (2018) nomination.

The trip to the G League may not signal the end of 2018-19 for Allen, but rather a numbers crunch on the Utah roster. Point guard Raul Neto is expected to make his return Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns after a six-game absence. With the Jazz's backcourt returned to full health for the time being, Allen can make the familiar trip back to the Stars and continue to work on his craft ahead of the team's potential playoff berth.
