Tyrese Haliburton has emerged as one of the top rookies in the NBA this season. Donovoan Mitchell has certainly heard of Haliburton's exceptional play this term so the Utah Jazz star decided to give the rook a bit of a welcome-to-the-NBA moment.

Here's Spida absolutely elevating for a perfectly-timed chase down block on the Sacramento Kings youngster ala two-time Defensive Player of the Year winner Rudy Gobert (h/t Jazz on Twitter):

Haliburton actually did a great job in clearing the path for a layup on the fastbreak play. The rookie used his body to fend off Bojan Bogdanovic and for a second there it looked like an easy deuce for Haliburton. He had absolutely no clue that Mitchell was right there to meet him at the rim.

Mitchell is one of the most noteworthy jumpers in the entire NBA and he showcased his full vertical on this block. Look at the video again and see how high he gets up to block that shot. His head was literally just a few inches from hitting the rim. That's certainly a block of the year contender in our books.

The Jazz entered Saturday's matchup with two losses in their past three games, including a 117-113 defeat against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. The race to the top of the Western Conference is getting pretty tight, and the Jazz will need to keep on winning if they hope to maintain their status as the top dog.
