After the return of their quarterback, the New York Jets are about to see another familiar face return to his old role with the team.

Head coach Adam Gase is expected to resume his duties as the team’s primary play-caller when the Jets face the Miami Dolphins in Week 12 on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. This comes after it was announced that quarterback Sam Darnold will return to the team’s lineup against the Dolphins after missing the Jets’ past two games.

Gase first gave up play-calling duties to Jets offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains during the first half of New York’s 18-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 7. In that game, the Jets jumped out to an early 10-0 lead against the AFC East-leading Bills, but couldn’t score the rest of the way as they ultimately fell and absorbed their seventh straight loss.

At the time, the 42-year old Gase said that the reason why he gave up his duties as the primary play-caller due to the team’s inconsistency, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

“I've been thinking about it for a while, just trying to figure out what's going on, how come we're not consistent and productive. I just felt like it was the time to do it and see how the guys would respond and what our offensive staff would put together. It looked like things were going well in the first half.”

Since then, the Jets have lost three more games to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, the New England Patriots, and the Los Angeles Chargers to fall to 0-10 with six games remaining.

However, it remains to be seen whether Gase’s return as the team’s primary play-caller can help the Jets avoid taking an 11th straight defeat against the 6-4 Dolphins.
