The NFLPA has released a statement in support of New York Jets guard Kelechi Osemele. Osemele is dealing with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which he believes he should be able to get surgery for. The Jets think the surgery should happen after the season and he should continue playing.

The NFLPA released the following statement on the situation:

“Our union supports every player's right to a second medical opinion, workers' compensation, and the best medical care. It is not appropriate or ethical for employers in any line of work to dictate the medical care and treatment of an employee. We are considering all options to protect Kelechi Osemele, as we would for any of our members.”

Osemele posted on Instagram a picture of the doctor's note that recommends that he receives surgery and is happy to perform the surgery if he has authorization.

The Jets fined Osemele for conduct detrimental to the team last week after he refused to practice and plan to continue to do so until he returns to practice and games. Osemele has filed a grievance against the team involving the fine and the way they have handled this injury.

Jets coach Adam Gase told the media he wasn't going to get into the situation but Osemele hasn't come to him over the situation.

This is a situation that seems like it's going to get worse before it's getting better with each side digging their heels in. This could be a fight that extends through the end of the season if neither side gives in.
