New York Jets defensive end Quinnen Williams just had his felony weapons charges dismissed. On March 5, 2020, at around 9:15 p.m. at New York's LaGuardia Airport, Williams was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon. He was trying to board a plane with his handgun, a Glock 19 which was licensed in Alabama, his home state, but not in New York.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero revealed a statement on the situation from Williams' attorney:

The Jets organization had high hopes for the Alabama Crimson Tide product after drafting him with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was rather underwhelming on the field as a rookie, finishing his first season with a total of 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery through 13 games played.

Williams is hoping to improve his team's cause after the departure of All-Pro safety Jamal Adams and loss of middle linebacker C.J. Mosley, who opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. None of the Jets' remaining defensive players have made a single Pro Bowl in their careers.

With an entire year being in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' system, Williams is trying to break out for New York. He tallied three assisted tackles in their opening game loss against the Buffalo Bills, followed by four total tackles and two recorded sacks against the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 2 encounter.

The 22-year-old contributed three total tackles in the team's defeat against the Indianapolis Colts and two tackles in a Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Williams' dismissed charges are an encouraging sign for the sophomore defensive lineman. He will aim to be a bright spot for a struggling Jets franchise in the midst of yet another season potentially going down the drain.
