New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold made a successful return to the starting lineup as he led the Jets to a 27-24 win over the Buffalo Bills. That win snapped the Jets’ six-game losing skid, three of which Darnold missed due to a foot injury.

Darnold is now setting his sights toward helping the Jets finish the season strong and carry some positive momentum onto the 2019 season.

“I think it’s huge, just trying to get as much momentum as we can going into next season,” Darnold said per Peter Bottle of the New York Post. “I think it will be huge for this team and really awesome for us to build off of a good end to the season.

“But for me, I think it’s just staying consistent. That’s the biggest word for me these next few games is just being a solid quarterback and someone who’s able to move fast through his progressions and just stay consistent with that, but also able to make plays when they’re there.”

Darnold went 16 of 24 for 170 yards with one touchdown and one interception in his return against the Bills. That was significantly better than his previous three games prior to his injury when he completed below 50 percent of his passes and threw seven picks.

But despite getting the win against the Bills, Darnold and the Jets could have a tough time finishing the season strong. Their final games of the season will be at home to the Texans and Packers and a Week 17 trip to Foxboro to face the Patriots.

Although, the Pats could rest a number of their stars by that point, which would give Darnold a decent shot at a season-ending win.
