Zach Wilson was arguably the worst quarterback in the NFL last season. The 22-year old out of BYU entered the league with lofty expectations but finished with more interceptions than touchdowns and an underwhelming 55.6 completion percentage in his rookie season. To make matters worse, the Jets went just 3-10 in games that Wilson started. But hope is not lost for Zach Wilson.

NFL analyst and former wide receiver Chris Collinsworth shared a bold prediction for the quarterback's second NFL season.

“If any second-year quarterback will make the leap, I think it'll be Zach Wilson.”

Collinsworth made the prediction on his podcast, “The Chris Collinsworth Podcast.”

At just 22-years old, Wilson should be in line for an uptick in production. His final season in college provides us with an idea of just how good he can be. Wilson threw for 33 touchdowns compared to just 3 interceptions and tallied over 3,600 passing yards in 2020. His extraordinary campaign earned him a second overall selection by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jets finished with just 4 total wins overall last year. But they are expected to play a more competitive brand of football after the offseason additions they have made. The team has been linked to Deebo Samuel as well and adding him to the roster would provide Zach Wilson with an elite weapon on offense.

Wilson commented on the Jets' willingness to build around him.

“I appreciate their confidence in me, and I think they understand that quarterback efficiency in this league, overall, not even just in my standpoint, it’s how you win games, it’s how you be explosive on offense,” Wilson said. “So, I need to do my part, I need to get better, I need to let the guys around me make the plays that they were brought in for. I’m excited that we’re in that process of building it together and we all get to kind of ride the wave together as well.”
