The New York Jets are beating up on the Washington Redskins, with second-year franchise quarterback Sam Darnold throwing three first-half touchdown passes.

Darnold, 22, threw his third touchdown pass to tight end Ryan Griffin in the final minute of the second quarter, a 16-yard connection in the end zone to put the Jets up 20-3 (via NFL).

The Jets forced a late-quarter punt by the Redskins, getting the ball back with fewer than 90 seconds. Darnold found the veteran tight end earlier on the drive for a huge first down and pick-up of 45 yards. Griffin was the beneficiary of his playmaking when Darnold threw to the UConn product for the third score of the first half.

Darnold also has a touchdown pass to speedy wide receiver Robby Anderson and former undrafted tight end Daniel Brown in the first half. The troubled quarterback who dealt with mono and a bout of turnover-itis this season threw a pick too.
