Who is John Cena's wife Shay Shariatzadeh, John Cena Shay Shariatzadeh

Everyone knows John Cena. The 44-year-old professional wrestler is considered one of the greatest of all time, after all. He has also made waves in Hollywood as a box office star with starring roles in hit films like The Suicide Squad and F9. Most recently, Cena received praise for his performance as the titular character in the DC Extended Universe's first television series, Peacemaker. Meanwhile, his wife is also no slouch.

Although born in Iran, Shay Shariatzadeh is a Canadian citizen. Like her husband, Shariatzadeh is also quite accomplished in her chosen profession.  In contrast to her Cena's career, however, she chose to live a more low profile life. She is a University of British Columbia alum, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2013.

In 2019, Cena was shooting comedy film Playing With Fire along with co-stars Keegan-Michael Key and John Leguizamo. They were filming in Vancouver, where Shariatzadeh works as a Product Manager for Avigilon, a Motorola Solutions company. She was even featured in the Avigilon's blog article for Women's Day back in 2019. When asked about her interest in the field, Shariatzadeh said:

“I have always enjoyed math and physics. My brother studied engineering in school, and I remember one day he came home with a project and it was an autonomous car — and that was it! I decided to study Engineering. … Today, I take pride working in the video security industry because our products help keep people and their assets safe, and that’s my little contribution to our world.”

Cena and Shariatzadeh later made their red carpet debut as a couple in October 2019 during Playing With Fire's premiere. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Key shared that he learned of the couple's first ever meeting when he asked Cena to hang out after work. The WWE star had apparently met Shariatzadeh when he noticed “a group of young ladies” at a restaurant. He then told Key, “There was one woman I was looking at and I couldn’t take my eyes off her … That’s when it started.” True enough, the two were first photographed back in March 2019 out in Vancouver having a dinner date.

Since then, Shariatzadeh has made several more appearances in the red carpet to support her significant other. Weeks after their red carpet debut, she accompanied Cena yet again for another premiere, this time for 2020 film Dolittle.

Shortly a year after they were first photographed, the couple married in a private ceremony in Tampa, Florida.

The couple then reappeared together once again in an August 2021 red carpet for Cena's latest breakthrough role as Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad.

Although Cena has previously been decisive about his stance against having children, the WWE star opened up that he was now open for the possibility of fatherhood. In an interview with The Sun, Cena said, “I’m a little bit older, a bit wiser. I’m realising there is life and life exists and it’s beautiful — and I think part of that is being a parent, so we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, Shariatzadeh still maintains her privacy despite her husband's larger-than-life fame, and does not seem to do interviews. Although she hasn't revealed whether she wants children, she did talk about her mother being her inspiration in Aviglion's Women's Day feature.

“The biggest lesson she taught me was to be independent and fight for the things I want in life. [My mother] is a surgeon who worked day and night so we could have a good life. While she was at the peak of her career, she gave it all up to move her family to Canada to give us a better future. She is the reason I fight to be the best version of myself, to be kind and to never give up — because, despite all the hardship, she always smiled. She is my hero.”

Well, there you go. What was initially a whirlwind romance resulted in wedding bells. Whatever happens, we only wish the best for John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh.
