In his first three years in the NBA, Jordan Clarkson has improved in each season, producing better numbers year after year. He has now established himself as a capable scorer after showing that he is versatile enough to play both guard positions for the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he understands that he needs to gain more valuable experience, which he can also get from playing in international competitions.

That said, it has been reported that the 24-year-old Missouri product is currently awaiting his clearance from FIBA that will allow him to play for the Philippines' National Basketball Team in the Southeast Asia Basketball Association Championship, which serves as qualifier to the FIBA Asia Cup this August in Beirut, Lebanon.

According to a piece made by Gerry Ramos of SPIN.ph, he spoke with Clarkson's father, Mike, who confirmed that his son wants to be part of the Philippine team, and is just waiting for word from FIBA.

“We don’t necessarily know where FIBA is in its decision-making process. But given the green light to play, Jordan will be there to play. And we look forward to that.”

“Jordan has reached out to them and let them know he’s very interested in being an active part of the Gilas program.”

The former second round pick in the 2014 NBA draft was initially part of the country's 17-man roster for the final Olympic Qualifying Tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, due to schedule conflicts with the start of the Lakers' training camp, the Philippine Team decided to go with their naturalized player and NBA veteran Andray Blatche instead.

Clarkson is apparently a Philippine passport holder since he was 12-years-old and will be able to play for the team as a local. Although his availability for the team is still unclear, the basketball-crazy country is still keeping their hopes up that he can represent them someday, and help boost their chances of making it to the world championships and Olympics once again.
