The San Antonio Spurs have remained relatively mum on the trade market, not shopping disgruntled star Kawhi Leonard, but only listening at theis points of the offseason, according to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports.

Like any other team would in their position, the Spurs are doing their due diligence on this matter, waiting for an offer that is too hard to resist to finally and potentially pull the trigger.

The organization is reportedly “hopeful” that issues can be ironed out between the team and their estranged cornerstone player, hoping that somehow head coach Gregg Popovich can work things out with Leonard, who is reportedly seeking to land with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent in 2019.

Teams like the L.A. Clippers and the Boston Celtics have the assets necessary to trade for Leonard, but will be hard-pressed to land him, so long as the Spurs remain committed to trying to keep him.

If a mind-blowing offer comes across, the Spurs could consider making a deal, as they stand to lose him for nothing if he declines his player-option at the end of this upcoming season and bolts for his preferred destination next summer.

Careful listening is wise, but wishful thinking isn't — as Popovich likely won't be able to mend fences like he did with LaMarcus Aldridge last season, with this issue not being about playing time or a role within the team, but a rather personal matter which Leonard feels has crossed the line.
