The Hornets just made a big splash in free agency with “Tsunami Papi.” Kelly Oubre signed a two year deal with Charlotte and should bring much needed energy to this organization.

Oubre played last season with the Golden State Warriors and averaged around 15 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting from the field. The signing of Otto Porter Jr. indicated that the Warriors were ready to move on from Oubre and the Hornets did the right thing to scoop the athletic wing. He will provide a much needed spark for this team as they move forward and it is the best signing that they have made so far in this off season.

When you think of a young team, most of the time you think about what they are capable of doing in transition. Especially when LaMelo Ball will be pushing the pace any chance he might get. Ball and Miles Bridges were able to form a formidable duo in the open court all season long with easy lob passes or catch and shoot situations. Now, the Hornets add Oubre to the mix, who is capable of doing both of those things as well at a pretty high level. He can posterize shot-blockers that dare to jump with him or drain shots from either corner if open enough.

His game complements LaMelo's perfectly. Also, Oubre has played with a handful of elite players over his past couple seasons: Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Given all that time with established stars in the league, playing with a young star like Ball will be no problem for him. Oubre will be added to the versatile wings that the Hornets already have like, Bridges, PJ Washington, and Gordon Hayward. However, all of these guys are still likely to see the floor even with this new addition. The more versatility this team possesses the better.

Michael Jordan seems to be doing his homework this offseason with the Hornets. He has added one of the better scorers in the draft in James Bouknight, potentially in the running for Lauri Markkanen, and now has signed a good rotational piece or even a starter for his team. The plan is likely to surround LaMelo Ball with weapons to hopefully get this team back in the postseason after a five year absence, but the bigger picture is ton keep LaMelo Ball happy.

Staying competitive and showing signs of improvement in the offseason is a good way to keep your young players invested in their future with a franchise. Hopefully the Hornets can keep this up for years to come.
