Kevin Lee has been shockingly released from his UFC contract. The announcement came from MMAFighting with ESPN following up with more details.

Kevin Lee is still only 29-years-old and has plenty of fights left in his career. His UFC contract actually still had fights left on it.

Marquel Martin, Kevin Lee's manager, spoke to ESPN about his client's release. He is disappointed but still sees a bright future for his client.

“The UFC's decision to release Kevin is disappointing and unfortunate,” Martin told ESPN. “Kevin is young, talented and has fought some of the toughest guys on the UFC's roster. I think the UFC made the wrong decision in releasing him, but we all believe there are brighter days ahead in Kevin's career.”

Kevin Lee has been on a strange stretch recently as he has been moving between lightweight and welterweight. He lost his most recent bout to Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 35 after taking more than a year off.

Before that, he had lost to the current UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira. He announced afterwards that he wanted to take a long break from fighting.

Kevin Lee is currently suspended by the NAC after testing positive for Adderall in his last UFC bout. The suspension also came with a hefty fine.

Kevin Lee did get a chance to fight for a title in 2017 when he challenged Tony Ferguson for the vacant interim lightweight title. Things wouldn't go his way as he would lose by submission. He did reveal later that he fought with a staph infection. Lee did have a very solid career in the UFC.
