Grant Napear, the former voice of the Sacramento Kings, has filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful termination, according to FOX40.

In June 2020, Napear lost his job as a radio host for radio station KHTK and subsequently stepped down from his role as the play-by-play commentator for NBC Sports California. The cause for termination was his response to a tweet from former King Demarcus Cousins, who asked for his opinion on the Black Lives Matter movement. Napear tweeted boldly that all lives matter, a common retort to the BLM movement used to delegitimize it and ignore its message.

Napear apologized and tried to explain that he was uneducated on the matter but it did nothing to change the situation. Upon Napear's exodus after 32 seasons calling Kings games, Cousins and fellow former King Matt Barnes stated that they were not surprised to see Napear's racist reply. Former King Chris Webber alleged that the Kings knew all along what kind of person he was.

Napear is suing KHTK's parent company, Bonneville International, on the grounds of wrongful termination and two violations of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. Since leaving the broadcast booth, Napear started a podcast, “If You Don’t Like That With Grant Napear.” Sacramento replaced Napear in the booth with ESPN announcer Mark Jones.
