Sacramento Kings fans finally got to see Harry Giles strut his stuff on the court in a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. Despite the long wait, Giles said his debut actually went better than expected, according to James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area.

In Monday’s preseason opener in Phoenix, Giles made a splash, scoring 14 points, grabbing six rebounds and handing out three assists in 23 minutes of action. It wasn’t a perfect showing, but it was definitely something to build on.

“I finally got one in the books for me,” Giles said following practice on Wednesday. “It went well. It went better than expected. It actually slowed down a little bit faster than I expected and I just had a great time out there.”

Giles' journey towards the league was indeed a very intriguing case. Arguably one of the top high school prospects of his class, Giles never lived up to the hype as he played measly minutes and produced low numbers in his one-year stint with Duke. Jayson Tatum, Luke Kennard, and Grayson Allen were the top players of that year's Duke team.

Two ACL tears and another knee surgery have hindered Giles in recent years, ultimately forcing lottery teams to pass up on him in the 2017 NBA Draft. After the Kings finally took him at No. 20, they decided to let him use his first season to fully recover from his prior knee issues.

Now healthy, Giles' mobility, shooting, and defensive potential could make him a quality player in the NBA. With the Kings still in rebuilding mode, there's no pressure for the young big man to put up big numbers as the team seems bent on bringing him up slowly and surely.
