The Sacramento Kings are referring to themselves as “The Scores” lately and Iman Shumpert has a very good reason why.

The Kings are one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this season, and according to Iman Shumpert, the nickname is directly linked to their success.

“We're ‘The Scores,” Iman Shumpert said to Jordan Ramirez of NBA.com after practice on Tuesday. “We come, we try to score fast, we try to score at a high rate. We have a lot of young bodies. It's cool to be on a team where we don't know who's going to score it.”

“We're just going to share the sugar. Whoever is going that's who we're feeding. We're playing off the energy. Calling us ‘The Scores' is a reminder that we all can do it…It don't matter who scores we just got to win.”

No one expected the Kings to come out and play to a .500 record through their first 20 games of the season. But as Shumpert said, they are playing fast and playing through whoever has the hot hand on any given night.

Sacramento has six players averaging in double figures, though Shumpert doesn't crack the double digits mark at the moment — averaging 9.9 points per game. Head coach Dave Joerger is getting contributions up and down the Kings roster. Emerging young talents like De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield have many NBA experts re-thinking their criticism of the team.

We'll see if the Kings' early season success continues, but there's no doubt they have something brewing.
