Shooting guard Brandon Austin will have to put his NBA dreams on hold as the Sacramento Kings have waived him prior to their preseason opener. With an abundance of young talent in the shooting guard spot with names like Buddy Hield, Ben McLemore, and Bogdan Bogdanovic, it was a realistic cut from the Kings without the need for Austin's talent.

Although he was impulsively given a camp deal a few days back, his best shot at cracking an NBA rotation will be with a G League affiliate as a call-up.

In upcoming season-related matters, the Kings are brimming with young talent ready for a breakout season. Aside from the stacked guard slots, their young frontcourt rotation is packed as well. Willie Cauley-Stein, Skal Labissiere, Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley III shore up the talent on that slot, not counting veterans Zach Randolph and Kosta Koufos in tow.

Without any clear star on the roster, a player or two may hopefully bust out into a bona fide star within this season. If their patience pays off, we can see a Kings squad with homegrown talent leading the way into their future.

Will they be playoff-bound this season? Very unlikely, but with a few more pieces we may see them try to crack a playoff spot in a couple of more years in the deep Western Conference. For what it is worth, the Kings may surprise us with their rebuilding effort paying dividends sooner rather than later this season.
