Even after a 136-125 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, the Sacramento Kings still have a 12-15 record, which puts them at 11th place in the Western Conference and just three games behind the eighth spot. They have a chance of returning to the playoffs and ending what is currently the NBA’s longest playoff drought.

One player who has played a huge role for the Kings this season is point guard De’Aaron Fox, who has shown an improvement and has become one of the team’s leaders in his fourth season. In 26 games, Fox has averaged a career-best 23.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 47.6% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc.

According to the 23-year-old, one person who helped him develop his games has been his fiancee’ Recee Caldwell, who is also a basketball player. In an interview with The Athletic’s Sham Charania, Fox talked about how she helped him work on his game during the offseason.

Caldwell is a former McDonald’s All-American who played for UCLA, Texas Tech, and California in college before briefly joining the WNBA. Fox in particular mentioned that Caldwell helped him improve his three-point shooting, as he would put up 400 to 500 outside shots during their workouts. This is something that he carried over this season, as his 34.3% shooting from downtown is better than his 29.2% shooting down outside last season.

Fox even said that Caldwell played a part in developing the things in his game that have stood out so far this season. With the Kentucky product putting up big numbers and receiving consideration as an All-Star, the Kings have Caldwell to thank as one of the reasons why he has made the leap this season.
