Enes Kanter has complete confidence that his New York Knicks will be big players during the much-awaited 2019 offseason. The Knicks were recently rumored to be a potential landing spot for New Jersey native Kyrie Irving, who considered the Knicks as one of his options before being traded to the Boston Celtics last summer.
Forward Jimmy Butler has not been content during his first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves and recently turned down an extension. The defensive ace was rumored to seek a potential pairing with Irving in New York, something Kanter is patiently awaiting.
“Yes,” he told Fox Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd when asked if Irving and Butler have genuine interest in joining the Knicks. “And the Knicks have a really, really high chance to get them next offseason. I believe that and I promise I think they will.”
New York has been in a playoff drought for the past five seasons, something Kanter noted could change upon the arrival of Irving and Butler.

“Some of the fans… they don't even know how to spell playoffs anymore,” he said.
Kanter ended his interview with yet another promise for New Yorkers, noting this new core could deliver this team to the promised land.
“I know the media is so tough on the Knicks, but I promise you guys in a couple years, we're going to put the Knicks on the map again,” said Kanter.
Kanter is not guaranteed to be a Knickerbocker past this season unless he signs an extension — but judging by the money he's been hoping to command, it's likely they let him walk — especially if they're really on the run to sign Irving and Butler.
