Despite a disappointing season overall for the New York Knicks, some history recently emerged from a player on the team. Evan Fournier broke the Knicks all-time single season three-point record on Wednesday night in New York's 121-106 victory over the Hornets. Fournier passed John Starks for the record with his 218th trey of the season.

Fournier finished with just 12 points in the game, but hit four three-pointers to ultimately earn the record. The 29-year old is quietly enjoying a productive campaign, as he is averaging over 14 points on 42.4 percent field goal shooting and 39.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc. His current three-point percentage would be the fourth highest mark of his career in seasons where he has played at least 35 games.

As for the man he passed, John Starks made 217 three-pointers during the 1994-1995 season. At the same, Starks's 217 total was an NBA record and did not seem as if it was going to be passed given the rarity of the shot at the time. However, his record has been shattered for a quite a while now and it currently ranks 69th on the all-time list. Naturally, the greatest three-point shooter of all-time Stephen Curry holds the NBA record for most 3's in a single year with 402 which came back in 2015-2016. James Harden is second with a mark of 378 which occurred during the 2018-2019 campaign.

Nonetheless, the Knicks are a longstanding, historic franchise. Evan Fournier should be proud of his accomplishment. He will look to add more to the total before the 2021-2022 regular season comes to a close.
