New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley took to social media after becoming one of a handful of players from the class of 2020 to fail to reach agreement on a rookie scale contract extension by Monday's deadline.

Fourteen players signed their extensions between July 1 and the deadline. Notable players such as Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers Tyrese Haliburton signed max contracts. Less notable players still getting a deal done include Josh Green with the Dallas Mavericks, Cole Anthony with the Orlando Magic, and Payton Pritchard with the Celtics.

Immanuel Quickley may not know what lies next for him, but he's definitely earned his place in the league. He had something of a breakout year last season; averaging a career-high 14.9 points and shooting 45 percent from the floor after failing to reach 40 percent in either of his first two seasons. Most importantly for Knicks fans, he helped New York to a 47-35 record; good for fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Both the team and Quickley will be hoping he can duplicate that success. The Knicks are trying to make noise in a greatly strengthened Eastern Conference. And Quickley will enter restricted free agency at the conclusion of the season.

If he is able to improve on his scoring numbers while maintaining the same efficiency he showed last season, he'll be a hot commodity on next summer's free agent docket. Quickley could force New York to have to open up their checkbooks with a strong 2023-24 campaign.
