For much of the offseason, the talk around the New York Knicks has centered on All-Star Forward Carmelo Anthony's future with the organization.

At the same time, this has also drawn plenty of buzz around how well Anthony has looked in pickup games over the last few months. According to Ian Begley of ESPN, head coach Jeff Hornacek and team president Steve Mills had attended some of those games that the 33-year-old played a few weeks ago.

Jeff Hornacek isn't the only member of the Knicks' hierarchy to attend one of Carmelo Anthony's New York City pickup games. Knicks president Steve Mills also attended a pickup game earlier this month featuring Anthony and other players at the Lifetime Athletic gym in Manhattan, league sources told ESPN. Mills' and Hornacek's attendance at these games is noteworthy because the Knicks have been looking to trade Anthony for months and Anthony, who has a no-trade clause, is open to being moved. New York has been unable to find a suitable deal with Anthony's preferred destination, the Houston Rockets. It is unknown if Hornacek or Mills had any substantive discussions with Anthony on the day(s) they attended games. For what it's worth, Mills last month wrote a long blog on a company website about his vision for the future of the club and didn't mention Anthony.

This is quite interesting given that the Knicks have continued to work toward moving Anthony to his desired landing spot in the Houston Rockets. It also brings up the question of how much the two sides have spoken at these games in question from earlier this month to discuss any potential moves or other scenarios that could arise in the process.

Although it's hard to determine the sense of direction of the franchise at this point, it does at least paint the picture that both sides are talking to some degree. It's clearly not something where there is radio silence in terms of what is the current state of the situation.

With the 2017-18 season fast approaching, there should more clarity as to what both the Knicks and Anthony will do moving forward.
