The New York Knicks interviewed four of their assistant coaches before choosing Mike Miller as the interim head coach, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

The Knicks are 3-3 since Miller took over for David Fizdale:

After president Steve Mills fired David Fizdale the day after a 37-point loss to the Nuggets, Knicks brass interviewed four of the team’s assistant coaches, according to an NBA source.

They chose Mike Miller, the newest of the group, to serve as the interim for his stoic personality and his head-coaching experience, although not in the NBA.

“He was just the right guy at the time,” one person familiar with the decision told The Post. “He’s got an unflappable demeanor and that was needed for the guys. Plus, he was the only one on the staff with a lot of head-coaching experience.”

The Knicks are 7-21 on the season. They are in the 14th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Luckily for New York, the Atlanta Hawks have been awful this season, otherwise the Knicks would once again have the worst record in the East. Atlanta is 6-23.

The Knicks won't make the playoffs this season, but the players seem to enjoy playing for Miller. We'll see if Miller does enough this season to get the full-time head coaching job over the summer.
