In his latest podcast, ESPN insider Zach Lowe speculates Kristaps Porzingis wasn't thrilled about the idea of playing with Kevin Durant on the New York Knicks.

Durant can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Golden State Warriors and the two-time Finals MVP has been linked to signing with the Knicks in free agency.

Porzingis met with the Knicks' brain trust during the trade deadline and reportedly requested a trade. The 7-footer got his wish, as he was sent to the Dallas Mavericks.

The ironic part about this is that the Mavs already have their face of the franchise in rookie Luka Doncic. However, since Doncic is only a rookie and doesn't have the star status which Durant has, maybe Porzingis believes he and Luka can co-exist better in Dallas than he and KD would have in New York.

Porzingis won't play this season, as he's still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered last season. Along with Durant, the Knicks have also been linked to star point guard Kyrie Irving, who can also enter the open market this summer if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Boston Celtics.

By trading Porzingis to the Mavs, New York now has cap space to sign two max contract players.
